Maybe it makes sense that you can use God for good as well as evil. It seems like people assume it's either one or the other. They also blame God for this disparity. They dismiss any worth God has because of it.
I suppose it comes back to choice. We are still able to choose. If you read the bible, you might think you don't have a choice, that God chooses these things. The main choice we have is whether to believe. Once that is chosen, we can decide what to use this spirituality for. Maybe there are cultures where there is no need to make the choice of belief. But isn't it interesting how ancient the concept of God is? It seems to be a human weakness, or something built in. Atheists fantasize about a society that has no pressure to believe. Then there would be a fair comparison between the morality of theists and atheists.
But it might be good to admit that religion and spirituality don't guarantee either good behavior or bad behavior. They are just templates to use as one chooses. You can't blame religion for your being an asshole. I mean you can, but not solely. Maybe it gives you some extra oomph. And likewise, it can help you be a nicer person too. It's a combined effort, between yourself and your religious beliefs. I don't see any need to bring God's vantage point into it. People like to try to determine what God's rationales are for things. And the why of it. I think that's giving God a little too much human-like quality.
